Could never get the hang of CSGO. Maybe I'll check it out to see how they improved it.

But it does seem to run clean on Linux and I think it will run on Mac at some point.
I played a bit of it last night, and I do think people are going to be happy with it in the long run.
It's modern to the point where it is going to be a competitor to Fortnite and the rest of those tranny games (overwatch, valorant, whichever others), but aside from adding some "cartoony" type stuff, it's very much the same game and feels to me cleaner on the hit rate (though I am shit at these games, so my opinion doesn't really matter).
But... I agree that killing the 1.6, especially immediately, is not really very good business. They should have at least given people a year to give feedback.

I am now a GOG sperglord. I don't even use my W7 box that often anymore, but it's a matter of muh principles.

Is it a CSGO replacement or a CS replacement? I think they're two different things. IIRC CS is like HL1 but a bare bones multiplayer mod where you run around and shoot guys like COD, CSGO is closer to HL2 and it has the additional economy thing that valorant stole (btw valorant is the ugliest game I've ever seen, all these games that tried to capture the charm of Overwatch fucking FAILED and they all look like Dollar Store "At Home" variants)
I don't play that shit either so I could be wrong
Imagine if the boomer shooter that zoomers picked up was Unreal Tounrament.... now THAT was a great game. Yeap.

GS:GO was "Counter-Strike 1.6." I forget if it was released as that. But CS:GO became the main game in the Steam Store. In think the economy was added for CS:GO, but it's still not a huge part of casual play - that had more to do with pro-gaming shit (and I guess people who are really good but not good enough to be pro).
But there is still a Counter-Strike: Source available in the steam store, so CS2 could have been released as a new game. Instead, they overwrote the old game. That's what people are mad about.
Anyway, it is a good game, and now that it has some of this cartoony shit, it should eat up some of the market share of Fortnite, which is really social cancer. But yeah, CS2 is clearly designed to be less niche and more friendly for younger people, while maintaining realism in terms of the combat. Or at least the guns. The combat is not realistic because that kind of side-stepping and jumping is not how people move in real life. And real war is much slower paced, even urban warfare that the game simulates.
