UK: Police Charge Man for Calling Lying BBC Journalist a Liar

Journalists can print whatever they want, and there are zero consequences.

There are no watch dog organizations, and if you question them online, you will just get banned.

Apparently, in the UK, if you question them in real life, you will be charged with a crime.

The Guardian:

A man has been charged with a public order offence, Scotland Yard has said, after footage online showed a journalist being confronted and chased by a group of protesters in Whitehall.

Martin Hockridge, 57, was charged with an offence under section 4A of the Public Order Act; namely using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards another person with the intention to cause them harassment, alarm or distress.

This is the guy

This is a thing he wrote on social media

Hockridge, who is from Harpenden, Hertfordshire, will appear at Westminster magistrates court on Tuesday 29 June. He was interviewed under caution at a Hertfordshire police station and charged on Tuesday evening.

Crowds had gathered in Westminster on Monday to protest against the government’s four-week extension of coronavirus restrictions in England. Footage posted on social media showed demonstrators shouting abuse at the BBC journalist Nick Watt as he tried to walk down the street.

The images showed the political editor of the BBC’s Newsnight programme, who was wearing a BBC lanyard, doubling back and running through a group of people, some of whom were shouting “traitor” and other slurs at him, before he made it beyond a line of police officers near Downing Street.
The Guardian adds that the police are asking for snitches to identify the rest of people in the video, so they can also be charged with crimes related to yelling at a journalist.

Literally, all they did was yell at him and call him a traitor for hoaxing the coronavirus.

This is illegal now. You have to agree with journalists and love them. If you see them in public, you have to praise them for being so truthful – particularly about the deadly coronavirus.

Virtually all of the politicians, as well as other members of the journalist caste condemned this atrocious act of disagreeing with a sacred conveyer of absolute truth.

Disgraceful to see the hounding of Nick Watt doing his job.

The media must be able to report the facts without fear or favour – they are the lifeblood of our democracy.

The video of @BBCNewsnight's Nick Watt being abused by a mob is appalling and distressing.

This behaviour is never acceptable.

This is horrifying. Nick Watt is such a decent guy. https://t.co/fsAc7JeH5k

Disgraceful treatment of @BBCNewsnight Nick Watt. A fine reporter and good friend. Subjected to the intimidation and thuggery of the mob. Simply terrible. Solidarity with Nick. https://t.co/rEjooI9IvV

Absolutely horrific. Solidarity with Nick Watt. It is a fundamental principle of any democracy that journalists are free to do their jobs without intimidation. https://t.co/J5bRhZsnFs

Disturbing footage of @BBCNewsnight’s Nick Watt, being pursued by anti-lockdown protesters@umairh wrote recently “Britain — the gentle, wise, intelligent, expansive one — was put to the torch. It became a nation afflicted by a fever dream of nationalism” https://t.co/kdBsB4WfmY https://t.co/jBJYabO0cP

Journalists and government officials both want this laddie thrown in the dock – because a movement of peasants standing up to the ruling class can quickly spiral, if it isn’t clamped down on quickly.

In the Ukraine a few years ago there was a movement of the peasants grabbing politicians and throwing them in trash cans.

Journalists are servants of the ruling class, and a protected class. You people think this is some kind of joke or strained metaphor when we say that they are a “priesthood” – but that is literally what journalists are. They are a class of people imbued by the state power with the right to declare what is and isn’t truth.

A movement against journalists would be a movement directly against the entrenched power of the establishment, as these rats are the frontline defenders of this system.

They really have to stamp down on the word traitor because it is the perfect description for all journalists and politicians, police and other useful idiots. It's short and sweet and to the point, highly memorable and implies that those accused should face some kind of consequence beyond a good talking to.
The last thing they need is the whole country calling them traitors even though it is the truth. They are communist lackeys for the jews and are working to destroy the country.
Expect to see harsh consequences for all using this word towards "authorities"

“He was interviewed under caution at a Hertfordshire police station and charged on Tuesday evening. Scotland yard told the BBC that Hockridge had been discovered to be a regular donor to a neo Nazi website known as the daily Stormer. When I asked about the donations, he said, “Here is my quotation. Don’t worry so much about my finances just worry about when we start to kill the reporters.” He also mentioned that the donations made no impact on his financial position because he had what he calls “fuck you money” and makes a lot more income than Nick Watt.

Unlike American news agencies like Fox, CNN, CBS, NBC, etc, the British Broadcasting Corporation is a government agency. So when you call them "names" you're calling the British government names. Here's what the www.gov.uk website states:

But at least they provide "impartial" news coverage.

Clownworld is so unbearably gay. Stories like this actually cause me to have to take a second to not feel personally offended at just how much contempt our overlords have for us. We are literally supposed to think when journalist stir up a mob of fat women and niggers to riot and burn the bitch down it’s democracy. When journalist for example call Lukashenko or Putin “thugs” “autocrats” etc and stir up neo nazis, drug attics and feminist to attack the police what we are seeing is true values that are who we are. When Journalist call Assad or Ghaddaffi a butcher and encourage Islamist to sodomize them to death with knives we are just seeing the realization of sacred democratic principles.

We are seriously supposed to think it’s good to arrest people who criticize journalist because if we don’t those people might one day take over the government and start arresting people who criticize them. We are supposed to think we need go to war with China and Russia because they arrest journalist as opposed to arresting people who criticize journalist.

Almost nothing makes me feel personally offended to the point where I visibly lose my composure but if someone were to seriously argue to my face IRL why I need to believe the above it would have the same effect on me as if they just called me retard and spit in my face.

I am absolutely not here to advocate for violence, but they might as well have just beaten the shit out of him. The legal consequences seem to be roughly the same.

The only conclusion that logical people can draw is that this is the outcome they are trying to provoke.

This was undoubtedly a setup. It has all the puzzle pieces pointing to it.

An illogical situation - a BBC reporter walks aimlessly around and around while a line of police, who we know love nothing other than beating and arresting anyone white and anti-lockdown, stand there placidly watching it happen. Also notice how the police act like it's not even happening, there's no reaction at all.

A completely uniform and coordinated media reaction - "we condemn this outrage". Every side comes together to condemn the behavior en masse, including the Prime Minister and various other government ministers, and it's pushed as the biggest story of the day.

Convenient timing - it happened on the same day the Prime Minister announced a delay of the removal of lockdown restrictions.

A precedent is set - namely a legal one: "charged with an offence under section 4A of the Public Order Act; namely using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards another person with the intention to cause them harassment, alarm or distress." I imagine in a few months they'll either quietly drop the charges or they'll fine him a minimal amount.

It's classic problem - reaction - solution.

Problem - we need to quell dissidence and smear a movement.
Reaction - this incident is disgraceful, we need to do something about it.
Solution - now we've exercised laws to stop anyone else who is thinking of doing it.
