Time to learn to truck.
I mean, if you need a job.
I wonder if images of truckers getting attacked by antifa-BLM have sunken in.

The pandemic has caused another shortage that could impact how much consumers pay at checkout.

Truck drivers are needed more than ever before.

Alyssa Bethencourt reports on how a national trucker shortage is impacting El Paso (KFOX14)

According to the American Trucking Association in 2019, 61,000 drivers were needed to meet demand.

β€œI'm betting you it’s more than double that. The pandemic has made it much worse,” Royal Jones, the president and CEO of Mesilla Valley Transportation, said.

Jones said truck drivers are maxed out on how many miles and hours they can run.

According to ATA, nearly 75% of goods in the U.S. are moved by truck. The shortage is causing prices of goods to skyrocket across the country.

β€œThere’s all of this demand for shipments, whether it be by truck or airplane or train, and there’s not enough people,” Jones said.

At Tuscan Premium Meats in west El Paso, manager Rebekah Davis said local grocery stores are buying out their product.

β€œWe've actually had other places come to us stating that they’ve had difficulty getting their meat from other places,” Davis said.

Davis said their meat is locally sourced, meaning they don’t have to pay as much money to keep their fridge stocked. It’s a different story for stores that rely on outside suppliers.

β€œIt’s really difficult. Consumers are the ones feeling the impact,” Davis said.

β€œI would expect everything is going to be costing more because wages are going up, fuel is going up,” Jones said.

One of the worst jobs imaginable. Everyone I ever knew who did this kind of work hated it and got really fat doing it.

Some like it, myself included.
It's solitary and usually you don't get bothered by a supervisor unless you're stupid.
You're not stuck in one location all day like a Warehouse or an office.
And you only get fat if you can't resist crappy food.
If anyone is considering Trucking go into flatbed work, it pays more and requires a fair amount of physical activity.

Some of the high-dollar trucks seem to have luxury-style cabs.
Is it not possible to put in a small kitchen set-up and at least have good, nutritious food on hand instead of stopping at the grease pits?
I understand physical activity is likely reduced if one has a busy trucking schedule and all the prolonged sitting, but is it not possible to squeeze in a minimum of three workouts a week at various gyms across the country while trucking for a living?

A small refrigerator and a grill like this could supply all that is needed for healthy eats on the road, especially if one is eating a modified keto type of diet with minimal carbs...

Yeah, I wasn't trying to insult anyone on the BBS. I'm sure it's a fine job for some people and there are ways to make it work, like inquisitor says.

The guys I knew who hated it got into it later in life when they found they could no longer keep up with other types of work. Those guys all got really fat and had a hard time keeping their lives together driving truck.

I kind of envy the solitary time you must have. I would be consuming audiobooks by the dozen on those trips.
