I am not a huge Warhammer person. I've read a couple of the books and not really gotten into it. But I'm big on the aesthetics.

I'm also a sucker for "RPG elements" in terms of tactical gaming.

So I was excited about this game like I was excited about Necromunda. But this game is apparently a disaster.

I am not going to pay $40 for this unless the reviews go up. I would pay $25 for it out of curiosity, I guess, and because I'm sure there would be some cool stuff.

Man I had the original Chaos Gate from 1998, along with several other late 90s Warhammer tac/strat games, they were really good at the time. My favorites were the fantasy RTT game Dark Omen, and the 40k TBT Final Liberation. Really set the standard for how games should be to my 9 year old self. Hard to get them running right on a modern computer but I replayed some Dark Omen not long ago and it holds up to time (that shit gets HARD)

I like tactics games. I think the graphics are kind of irrelevant.

I don't remember Dark Omen either. I think in 1998 I was playing Infinity Engine games, as well as like, Halo.

I have windows 10 and Chaos Gate and a Fantasy one I didn't mention (Shadow of the Horned Rat) wouldn't really run on my computer, when I did get them running finally they lagged the hell out and were basically unusable. Final Liberation and Dark Omen ran more or less well, I forget what I did exactly as I don't currently have them installed but it took a bunch of messing around in the admin settings and my control panel. I know GOG has released some of them (I had pirated old versions) that probably run ok, Dark Omen hasn't been re-released though and it's the one I really wanted to play. I'm a boomer when it comes to tech so I don't know why they won't run but it's probably similar to the way apps after iOS 10 won't run on my Iphone 5s (which otherwise works just fine, aside from holding a charge)

The developers for some ridiculous reason decided to put 11 ingame items(not skins or cosmetics but actual weapons and armor) behind twitch drops on the day of release. In order to get these items you not only have to create and link a Frontier account and a Twitch account but you have to watch hours and hours of inane twitch streamers prattling on instead of actually playing the game you paid for. They also are timed so if you miss them you miss them forever.

Dude I loved space hulk. It was awesome. It had Gory cutscenes back in the 90’s. You could see what all your guys saw and use the mouse to shoot for any of them even the mini screens if the ai was stupid.

You had to manage your guys and and could pause to give new orders and play as each one 1st person the aiming was literally just moving the cursor. The screen stayed the same for retards like me.

Dark omen was the sequel to Shadow of the Horned rat. man i loved that game, the only game that i consider un-completable though.
well, you can complete it and get bad endings, but to get some of the various good endings, required you to go through more than 3 massive enemy camps, each one with huge armies, catapults, etc. and at the end, you can replace like 6 guys. then camp 2, same deal, and you can now replace 3 guys. then there was a 3rd camp to get through, same deal, no reinforcements at the end, and the story opens up again, But i could just never get past camp 2 with enough men left to make it through camp 3. and its sad, because there is another like half of the rest of the game left at this point in the game.

Dark omen was no where near as hard, and was really good.

Mechanicus is a TB game and it has very good reviews.

They seem to just be very liberal with giving out rights.

Though the people who made Necromunda made Mordheim a few years earlier, and it was hard to believe it was the same team, Necromunda was such a disaster. It could be GW meddling. Actually Mordheim was also Warhammer but the old universe, not 40k. Most of the good games use that universe (maybe same universe, I don't really know, but it's branded differently).

Actually, Necromunda has "mostly positive" now.



Anyway - compare this to Wizards of the Coast. They would rather sit on properties than release bad games.

Starcraft was originally supposed to be a 40k game but Blizzard ended up losing the rights halfway through and just changed the lore a bit. So they could have had a legendary 40k game but they fucked it up.

As Doomgoy mentioned, Mechanicus was very well received, and it's basically the same genre, also in the 40k universe. Also, the music is amazing imo. Don't know if you've played that one before.

Space Hulk: Deathwing, is really good imo. However you *HAVE* to set the brightness correct, or you don't get a proper experience. and there isnt a single lets play on youtube, where they havent cranked the brightness right up to full. If you are playing it properly, you can barely see past your own hand. and its great

Yeah i would say that Mechanicus actually looks like the tabletop game Space Hulk. translated into a computer game. but about mechanicus and necrons, and not space marine terminators, and tyrannids.



Space Hulk deathwing, is a first person shooter however. though there are also space hulk games, that are also translations of the tabletop game. and they are pretty good.

It was supposed to be a battlestar galactica game, and they didn't manage to secure the rights, so converted it a bit and made it about an underdog story, space survival, rts. and it is hands down one of the best space games ever made.

I remember the game from when I was a kid. The gameplay on the remaster looks pretty great.

I haven't played an RTS game in years. Was really excited about Warcraft 3 Remake, but that thing happened. Oh and I played C&C remake and sucked at it lol.

the remaster is great, but has its problems, they introduced the difficulty scaling from homeworld 2, and it makes the last levels absolutely insane. If you don't know what im talking about, basically the bigger your fleet becomes, the enemy gets a multiplier to its fleet, so by the end missions, the enemy has fleets 3-5x bigger than yours, and it gets rather hard. the original didnt have this.

I haven't played an RTS game in years

Im playing alot of the original Rome total war with Darth mod, so that kinda counts, and playing Baldurs Gate 1 again. my fav RTS of all time is Total Annihilation. Its also freeware due to its age if you want to have a look at it. easily one of the best RTS games ever made.

mechanicus is good, gets repetitive tho

it is technically an xcom game, turn based and resource management - the main resource being the priests themselves

That one was beyond difficult. I used to have it, but lost the disk. For some reason I still have the box.

Im pretty sure that Chaos gate was literally reskinned Xcom Ufo defence, down to base management and ammunition requisition, etc. but im also sure they cranked the values up to 11 and made everything do shitloads more damage. making the game seriously difficult compared to xcom

Xcom UFO defence was really good actually, i remember making a couple of guys go out totally encumbered, and within a couple of missions, their strength value maxxed out because of it. had alot of RPG style progression mechanics.
Guys that got wounded and survived, ended up getting a larger HP pool, stuff like that

I love these games though and wish someone other than Beamdog had done the remaster. Are you playing the original or the remaster? I would like to see all WoC digital properties be transferred fully to Larian and have them contract out reamasterers. I don't even know what Beamdog is, other than that they had a bunch of bluehairs and trannies involved.

Although frankly, I would prefer a DOS 3 than the BG3. It's not really BG3, it's just DOS 3 with BG aesthetics, and it's hampered by the stupid 5g D&D rules, which are retarded. Frankly, the DOS lore is just as good as D&D lore, and their character system is better than 5g DND.

However, I have sworn to do a full game of BG3 with @Tony Castle when it's finished. I would actually do a playthrough now if he's down. I'm not sure we have any place to stream. I don't want to go on cozy, though if Tony was allowed I would go on his stream on cozy and then post reposts on Bitchute.

The CD key is probably on the box so maybe you can download it from the official site?

The single possession I have kept for the last 20 years is all of my Blizzard CD keys. Although my WC3 key became useless after the stupid remaster.
