Spooked by Russia, Tiny Estonia Trains a Nation of Insurgents

This is just politics. Estonia can train all they want, but if they have to rely on themselves to fend off Russia, then they won't fend off Russia. If the Western/NATO system collapses, they will have to find a modus vivendi with Russia. Not only Estonia, but even a much larger country like Poland will have to as well. But I believe that if something like that ever happens, and I really hope CEE will remain as independent as possible, then Poles will not be able to come to terms with it much as they were not able in the 30s (and I mean before 1939). They are too entrenched in history book thinking, vague gestures, and national-feelgoodism. Baltics seem more practical from my shallow observations.

The only country in the whole region with a mature and cold-headed foreign policy approach is Hungary. They have obviously not let their tradition of statesmanship go to the devil — they had a first class court even in the interwar period. Needless to say, much like Kremlin, their bureaus are staffed with dead serious dudes, not nerds, propagandists, and dilettantes as is routinely the case in Poland. As far as I can see, Estonia is trying to the best of their ability to imitate Nordic cabinet choices (and not just cabinet choices), which means that you can pretty much put the sad violin playlist on as far as their ability to resist anything is concerned.

Russia is not a white nation. It is a multiracial, anti-white empire similar to the United States and very much a threat to both its neighbors and the Russian people.
have u already booked a place at the cemetery in the face of the Russian invasion? :ROFLMAO:

One of the things that motivates that is the anti Russian inpulse. It's the same logic as "muh Russia hacking". Russia is always on the opposite side for these things. In Soviet times it was that they were too left wing, now it's they're too right wing.

I don't think it's possible for these petty nationalisms to realistically remain out of the shadow of more powerful actors - but I think they ought to court favour in less hysterical terms.

This. This is what’s so ironic about the Azov/“3rd positionist” anti Russian nationalist. If NATO, the US and EU die which all the 3rd positionist claim they want than the first thing Biletsky (all the anti Russians favorite person) needs to do if he is in charge of Ukraine is call Moscow and seek some kind of mutual understanding.

Without NATO and the US to hide behind Poland won’t be talking as much shit, nor will the Baltics. So all the cool guy points that these people get for being anti Russia are actually just luxuries they can only afford as long as NATO and the US still exists. In other words it’s all fake and gay unless you seriously think NATO and the US empire are good things.

Every nation has its own crowd, Estonia is no exception. Some nations are perhaps more guilty than others as far as the lack of common sense is concerned, but that is beyond the point. It is the duty of elites to rule their nations using common sense, and to serve as a filter to what is mere popular sentiment, and to safeguard their people against folly. I'm certain that Kremlin rules over a far more hot-headed nation than Estonians, but they know their job. In certain political cultures, coarse popular sentiments really do make their way to the top echelons of power. "Stick it to the Russians at all times" is a suicidal policy for a 2 million nation neighboring Russia, and any outside observer can see that without mistake. No explanation is needed as to why London or Washington are rubbing their hands over that.

However I can confirm that Russian nationalist do not give 2 shits about the Baltics or even Poland and Ukraine besides the south east.

...

But again Russians don’t care and this is just a case of a former soviet country seriously over estimating how important they are to Russia.
It doesn't matter what sentimental patriots or ideological nationalists think. The facts are as Villis stated, they are of extreme strategic importance. Right now Russia is choked out of the Baltic/North Sea, whereas with those ports they could dominate trade and pose a serious naval threat to nations on the Atlantic. The presence of NATO there also shows that if Russia doesn't have them, their continental/Atlantic enemies will. So there are two major strategic reasons for Russia to take the Baltics and hold them. This has nothing to do with "nationalism" or what a bunch of skinheads or geriatrics nostalgic for Andropov feel in their hearts. It's a matter of realpolitik, of military and economic necessity.

This is the reality. I don't like it because I have a special place in my heart for the Baltic language cultures in particular, and Russia absolutely does have a track record of extinguishing local cultures - of outlawing their languages and religious practices, breaking the peoples up and deporting them to different worthless parts of Asia. I don't want to see it happen. Maybe the Russians won't do it this time around, who knows. But this seems to be the rule of Empire these days - China does the same thing in Tibet, not because they hate Tibetans but because Tibet is an extremely strategic position that China must hold to protect the interests of their heartland from any ingress by Western-backed forces across the Himalayas. If India moved in and occupied Tibet they could choke off the headwaters of the Yangtze which would be deadly for China. Russia has similar though less pressing needs in the Baltics for reasons mentioned above.

So if Russia gets the chance, it will absolutely take the Baltics and it will do so out of necessity.

That population growth was Slavs moving in mah dude.

Also, you are arguing for communism. Fuck communism and fuck the USSR.
It is also facile to point to population growth to deny a possible future cultural genocide by an occupation that hasn't happened yet. Like wow, just wow. People should think about these things more deeply before they come in with their stupid takes.

What, you mean what are mulattoes, or what African country do Estonians derive their obvious Bantu ancestry?

Estonians. They appear to be from the southern Lake Chad area, or perhaps an offshoot of the Northern Zulu.
