I was a huge "fan" of "Beggin" Bob Larson back when. There was such a symbiotic relationship between Glen Benton and Bob Larson. Glen had to pay royalties to Bob when he wore a t-shirt that said "Kill Bob Larson". Bob of course, was scaring the hell out of gullible Christians with his horror stories regarding death metal (and making millions).
Once, way back when I was in my college days in Tampa, I went to see Bob Larsen when he came to town. I knew of his reputation and thought it would be amusing to see him in person. He had booked a conference room at the local Holiday Inn, and it was packed with little old ladies. I couldn't even find a seat and had to stand in the back. He started doing his thing but I left after a short while, not interested in his speel any more, and also because I had the feeling his security guys were eyeballing me, and didn't quite trust me.

I went to see Bob, but sadly I got there too late. This was in 1993, and when I got to the Pentecostal Megachurch people were coming out. About half the crowd had the "look" of believing Bob. The other half were a mix of metal heads, goths, teenage Satanists, and weirdos like me who found Bob funny. A couple of friends I was supposed to have met were walking out and laughing. They told me Bob got confronted several times, mainly about his shameless plugging for money as well as his Elmer Gantry routine. I'd say Bob was milking people at the right time and place. By 1992 or so, the Great Satanic Panic was starting to lose steam and by 1994 it was over.
