Had a Lucid Dream for the First Time Last Night

Pretty surreal considering all the other dreams I’ve had ended as soon as I was aware I was dreaming. But this time, the dream kept going and I was able to manipulate everything around me. At one point in the dream I encountered a pack of aggressive coyotes and I was able to transform them into deer.

When I finally woke up I wasn’t sure if I was still dreaming or not at first. I then asked myself, β€œhow did this happen?”. I thought about how I played COD pretty much all the day, so I looked it up and apparently playing video games for a while can cause lucid dreams.

Now I can’t get that horrible song by juice world out of my head.

Have any of you guys encountered this before?

Yeah I get them sometimes. Mine are more like semi-lucid dreams I guess. They vary in the amount of awareness and control that I have. When I become too aware I usually wake up. However I've had a lot of them, usually the first thing I do is try to fly with varying degrees of success. I've had some where I'm able to fly around in total control of my movement, and others where it's sluggish and more like low-grav moon jumping.

Usually, I then try to spawn a naked lady (for research purposes, obviously) and that's always when I wake up, which sucks.

All of my lucid dreams have been spontaneous ( in other words, I never followed any of the protocol that people who are trying to have lucid dreams follow) but I found them uncomfortable and nightmarish. Yours sounds interesting and pleasantβ€” I can see how playing video games could gear the mind up for that.

Also which COD were you playing? The newest one is kinda trash imo. Modern Warfare 2019 was really great though.

I rub snuff (plz no bully), and so dozens of times I have been unfortunate enough to actually fall asleep with a dip still in my lip. Whenever this happens I usually have the most intensely vivid dreams that I've ever experienced in my entire life. And if I am going to have anything like a lucid dream experience, where I am aware I am dreaming, and where I can control things most successfully, it will usually be whenever I have accidentally fallen asleep with a dip in my mouth like that.

I'm not explaining this here so that anyone here goes out and attempts this themselves. But I have heard other people explain the same thing before whenever they've fallen asleep with a nicotine patch on their body. Similar dynamics- I guess. And I've also heard that it's potentially dangerous too- which is why I already said that this is not an advertisement or an actual promotion here of my explaining this. The nicotine must do something that kicks the brain into much higher gear once neatly inside of the R.E.M. sleep envelope.

Interesting. I’ve had lucid dreams on medication so must be a similar mechanism working in the brain.

I have them every so often- maybe like one a month. The weird thing is that without fail, before I wake up, a theme song of sorts starts up. It’s always anime opening/credits type music and my brain just makes it up apparently. The music fades in and you can still hear dialogue or whatever is going on in the dream, then the music volume takes over for a minute or two, then I wake up. So when I hear the music start up is when I know I’m going to wake up soon. The made up anime music is stuck in my head for a few minutes after I wake up, then I always forget it. Also weird: I like anime, but I really hardly ever watch it.

edit: Like @Coltraine, I also dip. If I put in a big one close to bed time, it does increase the likelihood of lucid dreams.

When I lucid dream I used to end up entering houses for research and it always failed for one reason or another, so I gave up.

A big Chantix side effect is vivid dreams. Acquaintances have told me they had nightmares while using it.

I've had them and got them so often I decided to train myself to bring an object back from the dreams. One night it happened as it usually did and I actually remembered within the dream that I was to bring something back. I remember there was a vase nearby so I grabbed it and remember saying to myself, 'well I have it now so no matter what else happens I'll wake up with this vase.'

I woke up and there was no vase. I then decided it was all bullshit and haven't had a lucid dream since then.

I went thru a stage several years ago where I was obsessed with inducing lucid dreaming. It definitely can be done with practice and is quite the trip.

I've only had a lucid dream without purposefully inducing it once, and it happened when I was a child, maybe 10 or 11. It was a profound experience though, and it was that that led to my interest in inducing lucid dreaming as an adult.

Yep! Some recommend using Swedish snuss (comes in packages instead of free) to have vivid/lucid dreams.

On the topic of lucid dreaming in general, I've been trying a tactic for extremely vivid/lucid dreams, it involved laying in bed and meditating until you fall asleep. I listen to something with headphones are wear range muffs to block out all noise. I've done it 3 times, the first time I had a dream so vivid that I became confused as to how I made it to the front door and who the people outside were doing here. The second time I was conscious when I went to sleep, but woke myself up with breathing through my mouth instead of nose. Third time I never went to sleep.

It's an interesting technique, might be worth delving in further.

Yeah, it's probably one of those things where (like psychodelics) if you have a lot of psychological or emotional issues in your life, you probably shouldn't try Chantix or these other similar types of drugs. Because you oftentimes might live to regret it possibly. I know plenty who have personally.

But as long as you're well in-tune with yourself and you don't have anything in your life or your past that your psyche is deeply at odds with, I'm sure Chantix is probably pretty safe and even quite effective too from what I've heard.

I do this too every night before falling asleep. My thing is actually probably a combination between meditation and prayer, but I get what you're saying. I've never considered prior to now, though, whether this had any impact on the vividness of my dreams. Interesting.

REM sleep is the only time when our brain is completely devoid of the anxiety-triggering molecule noradrenaline. At the same time, key emotional and memory-related structures of the brain are reactivated during REM sleep as we dream. This means that emotional memory reactivation is occurring in a brain free of a key stress chemical, which allows us to re-process upsetting memories in a safer, calmer environment.

Something something...dreaming is requisite to healthy function of your brain.

And demons can get up in your biddness if you let them,!

I've had lucid dreams a few times. I don't ever really do things that most people would do. I remember one I had in which I realized I was dreaming, and didn't want to do anything other than sit under a tree in the shade on a sunny day and throw water into the air and manipulate it into cool shapes as it fell to the ground.

A lot of times they involve me trying to solve my problems by delving deeper into my psyche. In the most vivid lucid dream I had, as soon as I knew I was dreaming, I searched for a way to go downstairs somewhere, to a basement of a building or something like that. I read somewhere before that, in dreams, basements represent suppressed areas in our subconscious. So I wanted to go underground to essentially find my demons down there and root them out. I still remember what happened very clearly. Unfortunately, my demons are still around, and I haven't had a chance to find them in my dreams in a long time.

Happened by accident, maybe 15 years ago, checked it out, managed to do some flights over different landscapes, that was cool.
The last time, I was flying over the ocean but was sitting in a big couch, I didn't give it anymore attention after that, never happened again.

I've had them quite a few times. They're pretty easy to induce if you will it and use a technique, such as getting the idea in your head that if you realize you're dreaming, try to look at your hands. Sleeping on my back is another way to greatly increase the chances of a lucid dream.

One of my favorites was one where people were flying, or levitating, near a steep sand bank. They were trying to get me to learn how. It was really difficult and required lots of concentration and effort, with the locus of flying exertion in the pit of my stomach. I was able to levitate , but only slightly. It was like trying to use a muscle that had never been flexed before.

Had several intense encounters with demons while lucid dreaming, too.

Did you break up with your girlfriend recently? I'm asking seriously. If you've mentioned it anywhere, I haven't seen it.
