When pervasive chip and semiconductor shortages are threatening supply chains worldwide, it is hardly a surprise that Apple, one of the largest silicon buyers, has postponed the production of some MacBooks and iPads, according to a new report from Nikkei Asia.

The report said chip shortages are hindering MacBook production. Apple has had difficulty sourcing "the mounting of components on printed circuit boards before final assembly," industry sources said. iPad production has also been impacted due to a shortage of displays and display components. Meanwhile, there's been a global shortage of inexpensive display chips that has affected the auto and tech industries.
According to Nikkei, these issues have forced Apple to push back the production of a "portion of component orders" for the devices into the second half of the year. The report doesn't say which models of iPad and MacBooks are affected.

So far, production for iPhones has not been altered by the chip shortage. However, two industry sources said critical components for the smartphone are "quite tight."
Production plans for Apple's iconic iPhones have so far not been affected by the supply shortage, although the supply of some components for the devices is "quite tight," according to two sources. Overall, the component shortage remains a supply chain issue for Apple and has not yet had an impact on product availability for consumers, Nikkei has learned.
The sources did not specify which MacBook and iPad models are being impacted by the chip shortage. Apple has yet to announce if the latest production woes will impact product availability.
With the chip supply worsening and spreading to specific Apple products, the shortage of certain semiconductor components is becoming a serious issue that is not expected to abate anytime soon.

"We really don't see an end to this shortage, and things could be even worse, looking ahead to the end of the June quarter, as some smaller tech players could run out of some critical inventories to build their products and need to scale back production," said Wallace Gou, president and CEO of Silicon Motion, a NAND flash memory controller chip developer that supplies Samsung, Western Digital, Micron, Kingston and many others.
Apple is not alone; rival Samsung Electronics, the world's biggest smartphone maker, warned the chip shortage could affect production in April through June.
Besides top electronic companies, automakers worldwide are shuttering production facilities due to the lack of chips.

One striking feature of the global supply chain turmoil is how widespread the issues are. The semiconductor shortage and its drag on auto production have garnered significant attention. Goldman economist Jan Hatzius notes the shortage and many others - from headphones to sofas to roller skates.

There is already so much of a glut of inventory of product sitting in warehouses and storage i dont see how this is an issue other than an excuse to price gouge on inventory thats already manufactured and sitting here.
They arent making this stuff on demand.
They arent ripping anything out of the manufacturers hands after he made it to get it to the customer.
An utter manufactured crisis.

Interesting...Do you have firsthand knowledge of this? I follow some low t computer nerd youtube channels out of morbid curiosity and all they've talked about the last few months is graphics card shortages cuz crypto mining. What makes you think the shortage is manufactured?

I have some knowledge about a few industries but not really the silicon chip manufacturing industry.
Im talking about assembled products.
For years there was an economic recovery(increased production) steadily right untill the corona scam came along.
Where did all those already assembled products go?
People and retailers were buying, stuff floating in container ships for weeks on the ocean.
Stuff in the factories in the asian slaveshops that assemble that stuff.
They didnt sell all of it while the world was shut down and manufacturing of products stopped, china restarted its production shortly after corona so they really had not much in the way of a shortage from a production standpoint.
Alot of what these people are asking for they already have made and are just griping about shortages because their stuff is costing more than usual, so they are buying less.
These companies that manufacture products with these "chips" arent snatching them right off the delivery truck and throwing them into products, thats terribly poor planning. They have weeks if not months of stock in inventory they pull from to assemble their things. They buy when its cheap, everybody does, and it was untill the trade tariff came along.
If you want to see how fake all this is just follow milk production and price, they were dumping it down drains months ago and sure enough you will hear about price increases across all dairy real soon because of lack of supply.
Alot of businesses just went under in the last year, so there is that, those people arent buying anymore so naturally the products that would have went to them would be available to those that are still around... Wouldnt it?
As far as the graphics cards and mining thing, more people are getting into something that was untill recently very low interest would absolutely have an effect on the production of that product.

I read an article on Zerohedge that a lot of car companies didn't anticipate the chip shortage - Toyota did and stockpiled some chips.

Maybe, but I know a lot of US-based manufacturing companies pride themselves on managing their JIT (Just In Time) inventory flow. Their goal is to have components arrive only hours before they're needed on the assembly line. Having excess raw material or components laying around is bad for the bottom line.

There have been news reports of semiconductor component shortages affecting vehicle deliveries since last fall.

Alright so what the hell is going on with ammo? I don’t buy the “8 million new shooters” shit because one doesn’t become a gun nerd cuz of a few extra chimpouts. Those of us into shooting for years are getting hosed by somebody and I wonder who you think it is. I suspect govt is buying it or paying manufacturers to slow production. Meanwhile where are people getting 20 grand to sink into cleaning out a pallet of ammo from online sale? Rich people aren’t usually gun nuts even if they own one or two.

I was under the impression that the government was buying it in bulk to limit actual availabilty of it to the general public, since no laws have passed restricting it being in the publics hands unlike guns... Yet.
And the rich are definately dabbling guns and ammo right now, especially the boomers trying to protect all their wealth they aquired from stealing their childrens and grandchildrens futures, so they can retire in their gated age restricted communities away from hellscapes.
Ghetto ass niggers arent the ones buying these ar15s and bulk ammo, they never were.

Many manufacturers are having Covid false positives/PCA test shut down production b/c of trained employees being out and quarantined too. You wouldn't want untrained people making those would you?

Yea tell me about it, ive filled in for so many people in so many places to keep production going in the last year.
Wish i got covid so i could take some time off.

If only you knew what hands are really building munitions in this country.
A hint, its not our hands doing it.

Then there's this:
There has to be more than ammo production driving up the price of copper.
