Also, I had to include the video above because it contained a joke about the current conflict that will age VERY poorly.

Is it a bad game?

I loved the first one.

I will no doubt love the second one.

But I'm not going to call either game bad just because most people can't wrap their minds around the play style.

Tips for the first game:

Talking (and only talking) in order to gain XP, then have the enemy follow you during the few early unavoidable conflicts you have to get into, get him away from his allies, and then trying to (unsuccessfully) kill them in a two-on-one battle with you and your only allowed party member.

It's difficult.

Put it on easy, turn off the automatic lock-on, and turn off the stamina.

Again: have them follow you and gang up on them every unavoidable quest fight.

You need every edge you can get.

Run away from the rest of the monsters. The beginning of this game plays very much like a survival horror and most enemies will KO on first contact.

Despite all that though -- if you have the time and patience, I say you should give it a chance.

Elex I - Biased Score:

10/10 Would play again. Multiple times.

Elex II: 9/10 only because it isn't as insanely difficult as the first one.

Highly recommended if you want to play a sci-fi series catered specifically to the clinically insane.

This is from the Risen guys? A sci-fi apocalypse version with jetpacks... I recall the original being crap.

Yeah, it's from the Risen and Gothic guys.

I highly recommend playing either one, or both.

If you don't like either, then that's ok.

However, these two are my favorite games of all time.

What do you think of Risen? The original

I only buy physical discs and keep my Xbox in offline mode until it forces me to update for a new game. A couple/few years ago, I was really excited to pick up this game...

Drove down to the GameStop soon after it was released and the man-child behind the counter told me it’s download only, no physical edition. I check the internet every now and then to see if they ever put it to disc (just checked last week actually) and it’s looking like they never will.

That’s really too bad, because I’ve been dreaming of an open world caveman game since I was a kid and, even though Ancestors doesn’t quite fit that bill (and would, in all honesty, surely disappoint me), it’s the closest thing I’ve come across. I guess Far Cry Primal is technically closer, but the vibe didn’t quite click and the mandatory first person view knocked off some points too.

I completed Just Cause 4 again yesterday and every time I play that game exclusively (and back when I played the earlier entries in the series) for an extended period of time, all other games feel so limiting and slow.

What? I can’t grappling hook to the top of any building I see in an instant and then fling myself off into a wing suit bank turn while a massive fuel silo explodes behind me and I soar over to the next pointless objective?! -yawn-

I haven’t decided which disc I’ll boot up next, but part of me wants to take a substantial break from gaming anyway. I’m about to start working a bunch way up in the city and there’s just not gonna be any time to spare for vidya, but this is also coinciding with the idea I have been considering regarding putting some effort in to ween myself off of a few of my time/energy sink activities.

Thanks for the game recc, but I don’t think I could get into something like this, even if I wasn’t trying to lessen my gaming for the meantime. I’m not really a fan of these games were you have to walk around and talk to people. I can’t get past the voice acting and the dialogue trees and the bullshit, not my style. I never get more than a couple hours into Fallout: New Vegas every time I try to start it, but I keep trying once or twice a year.

No problem.

I understand.

I don't usually like these sorts of games either, but Elex was the exception that got me hooked somehow.
