Maybe that's one of the reasons I've been somewhat reluctant to return to the game after 65+ hours.
I wanted to expand on what I wrote yesterday, I think they stretched themselves too wide with the open world. It seems like they made this gigantic world (it truly is impressive how the map just keeps zooming out as you explore the world) first and then ran out of time to fill it with unique enemies. The first couple zones are so dense you can't walk more than 30 seconds without running into something, but the later zones are like, 1/4th of the density in terms of hidden dungeons and such. It would have helped if they didn't have the first few zones be as dense and have the later ones been about even in density. It's kind of a bait and switch because as you're playing it you're expecting all the zones to have such a high level of content packed into it but they're really not. Maybe this was a marketing thing more than creative design though, because they have to know the majority of people do not play games to completion (unless they're like 8 hours). I'm in the snow zone and only something like 25% of players have the achievement for beating these bosses, so basically, the average gamer picks up the game, does the fist couple zones, goes "THIS GAME IS AMAZING THERE'S SO MUCH STUFF TO DO THE WORLD IS PACKED FULL OF STUFF! I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE MORE" to his friends, never plays the game again and therefore doesn't see the quality drop around the midgame and there you have it.

I certainly don't think the game is bad, I think I would have given it a 8 or 9 /10 for the first 3 zones, but ever since getting into the capital area it's more like a 6 or 7 if I'm generous. There's just way too many reused enemies. I did not expect to be playing the game still over a month after it launched given how much I played it, I'll say that much.

That's weird, I haven't had that problem.
It must be a rare problem indeed, otherwise my attempts to find solutions would likely have been more fruitful.

I finally got to beat the game a few weeks ago and man... the ending sucks balls. The final boss is the worst final boss in any from software souls game I've played. The guy with the hammer is cool enough, they should have given him a 2nd phase instead of the weird blob creature that runs around the room and spams spells at you. what were they thinking? This game was so good at the start but it really overstays its welcome.

Congrats!

Having to re-download the game twice did some major damage to my enthusiasm levels, so I'd only put in about 3-4 hours of game time since my last post about it here.

I'm certain that I'll go back to play it some day and appreciate all of its mystery and lore -- even if it means heavy grinding, frequent death, and an unimpressive end boss.

Hell, I'll probably even do the NG+ thing because I always enjoy checking out different builds forms of maidenless existence.
