I just googled it and Cormac McCarthy is still alive. He's 89. I need to finish a book quickly - where I steal his syntax and stylistisms (which he stole from Faulkner anyway) but actually have meaningful themes - so I can send him a copy with a post-it note that says "ummm care to comment?"
lol

About ten years ago it was popular among chat board hipster posers to talk about how The Beatles were actually terrible.

Whatever you think of The Beatles, that shit was objectively ridiculous.

So....I guess I would just say: take a shot.

Awesome story! Reminded me a lot of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Greta clone is a great and hilarious idea but actually profound too. In a sense we aren’t getting the real Greta in this timeline because she’s had her childhood stolen, not by climate change but by having a sociopathic opera singer as a mother.

Well, that's how you get Blood Meridian.

A piece of literature is more complicated than a skyscraper - and more meaningful, lasting much longer (potentially former) and impacting more people, and we can look at the amount of science that goes into building a skyscraper. You have to have all of this stuff going on in the background if you're going to actually write something good.

But yeah, since I was a teenager, I've been preventing myself from trying to publish fiction with perfectionism. The good response to this means a lot, because this is not something I spent any time at all on. There are things that I've worked and reworked for long periods and never published. The reason I published this, probably, aside from wanting to record the dream and then needing the content, is that it was so low-effort, just written in the early morning on a rainy Sunday, so there was nothing to lose.

It's probably best to err on the side of not getting sloppy because it is a slippery slope to becoming washed. However, I am also a big proponent of saying fuck the man, let all conventions be damned, and write whatever you want to write.

I've noticed with many of my favorite content creators- including Anglin, Paul Town, and Alt Hype- have a sort of loathing toward the more freewheeling, stream of consciousness content of their own creation. Not to shun the more polished work, or to discount the fact that higher effort content could be considered 'better' on some kind of objective scale, but stream of consciousness style content tends to be my favorite. The catch is that you have to be an S tier creator to make it work. But I think their is something really special, and uniquely insightful and fascinating about being able to observe the raw, real time process of a great mind at work. So it always make me sad when Anglin or Alt Hype gets down on their less refined content, because that's often my favorite.

I do understand the frustration that the lower effort stuff can get in the way of the more structured output, and I wouldn't say the looser stuff should take priority.

In the dream itself, the game was somehow able to possess people and rip out their souls. So I think technically It was the real Greta that had lost her soul, and I was able to see ghosts.

The Finnish kid's body would have actually left the building on some kind of mission, I think, and that would probably be how the game was perpetuating its agenda, by taking over people's bodies by psychologically breaking them down. This is definitely a plot device which looks kind of sloppy at first glance, but also fits with the themes.

Anyway, I'm halfway committed to just trying to turn this into a novel, so I guess I shouldn't give the whole plot away. But yeah, there is definitely a clear plot, and it is not meant to be just absurdism.

The human decision-making process and the way that individual decisions still matter even when they are buried by group behavior patterns/society (particularly in a modern society, where every individual feels they are being crushed by powers beyond their control, which seems to be at the root of much bad decision-making - see opioid deaths in connection to the coronavirus hoax)
In the interview you did last week on politically provoked, you got into some discussion of The mystery of human free will and how it interacts with us larger influences. This quotation does more to get into the essence of the issues and a theological or technical discussion could do. In reality, it’s not possible to give people any feeling of resolution or peace about the deepest mysteries of God except through storytelling. It can be fun and interesting for Christians to read ancient works of theology but the purpose there is to enhance the faith you already have, not to acquire that faith. In the same interview you were tongue-in-cheek mocking the history of the novel. You were suggesting somewhat correctly that most fiction is masturbatory for both the writer and the reader. But there are large exceptions to this rule, and I am persuaded that the most edifying books are all works of fiction.

The claim that so-called serious or straightforward treatments of ideas is always superior to a fictional presentation is facile. It’s on par with telling people you don’t dally in movies and video games because it would interfere with your deep reading in the fields of sociology and anthropology. Most people are not scholars, and the quest To fool every NEET on Earth into believing that they are both capable and required to become academic masters of some abstruse discipline has been devastating to the entire west.

tying it back with free will, it’s so true that individual decision-making continues to matter regardless of the ups and downs of historical and political trends in my own lifetime. We cannot use the excuse of living in troubled times to defend wicked actions on our own part. This is precisely the challenge God is making before us, to prove ourselves worthy of him by defying forces of evil, even and perhaps especially when it means the sacrifice of individual comfort.

It may also be worth noting that the concept of individuality is ultimately illusory, because we belong to the body of Christ. As I’ve quoted often, the philosopher pleasure man has opined that the atom of society is two people. No person is ever acting only on his own behalf, but at least on behalf of himself and GoNo person is ever acting only on his own behalf, but at least on behalf of himself and the family he descended from. Everyone has moral duties to both their ancestors and their offspring, and ancestors and offspring are not only flesh and blood but also intellectual. In other words, I have physical family but I also have intellectual relatives, fathers who went before me and sons who will follow me in terms of my worldview.

in some ways I’m defeating my own claim here by going on with intellectual arguments about how the individual fits into the collective instead of writing a fictional story about that idea, which I’m claiming is the superior way of communicating this truth. Ultimately what I’m saying is that your nutshell of a story in the OP does what great fiction should do, help the reader feel that the mysterious relation between the individual and the culture is tough to grasp but able to be discerned through meditation, which is what I think fiction actually is (prayer).

You guys ever had a dream where you met Jesus? I had one months ago at the height of my corona/vax related stress (I had trouble sleeping during those days) and it's one of the dreams I remember the most, I usually only remember small parts of dreams. I fell to my knees in tears in the dream as I was in his presence and he smiled at me warmly. Then I saw ruined, empty cities and skies of fire. I have never felt a dream that vivid in my life. I could probably write lots about that dream, but I won't, not now at least.

@Andrew Anglin it seems like the lord is pointing you in a different direction. The news really is tiresome at this point and anyone who hasn't been shocked out of their slumber by the last few years isn't going to be by the shock humor rhetoric. The stormer archives will remain for anyone looking.

I just come to read the writing now. I'd love to see you put your time toward longer forms. The shelved book geared toward young men would be invaluable if reworked to building a life during and after the demise of the current system. Your wonderful writing on faith could be woven into that.

It would be hilarious if your books were published under a pen name, receive the acclaim due, and were later revealed as the work of the greatest evil nazi mastermind of all time.

My sleeping dreams are just random nonsense. Sometimes I dream about my father driving a 4wd jeep through the woods with me in the back seat then a cat meows and turns into some ho I used to know and then I need to pee and wake up. All my real dreams are thoughts I ponder about for weeks sometimes years they persist maybe these dreams should be called visions or whatever.

I've had a few dreams I wrote down just for myself.

Only time I was introduced to Jesus in a dream was during a lucid event, in a horrifying attack by a demon that had me totally helpless. The presence of Jesus appeared when I called out for help. I was also brought to tears by His presence. I had no visions afterwards, just the most delightful bath of light and peace, and also joy and mirth (somewhat like that feeling after a huge laughing fit).
